What’s New: OmniPeek Distributed Analysis Suite – Version 6

The OmniPeek Distributed Analysis Suite includes the award-winning OmniPeek network analyzer, OmniEngine software probes and Omnipliance network recorders, advanced analysis cards, and a host of extensions that add virtually unlimited functionality across all areas of wireless, Gigabit, 10 Gigabit, and wide area networks.

This latest version represents WildPacket's most comprehensive offering with sweeping new functionality to address the explosive growth in voice, video, and data traffic over today’s converged IP networks.

Voice and Video over IP Dashboard

In addition to network and application performance Dashboards, OmniPeek 6 introduces intuitive VoIP and Video Dashboards where, at a glance, network engineers can see the voice and/or video quality for each stream being transmitted, and can be notified when performance drops below a certain level. In cases of poor performance or system issues/outages, network and telephony engineers can quickly drill down and analyze the exact cause of the issue, including unexpected interactions between voice/video and data, for rapid resolution. Comprehensive reports can be generated giving key decision-makers and company executives an accurate accounting of Voice and Video traffic for compliance and capacity planning.

The new Dashboard includes statistics such as number of closed, open, and total calls, as well as percent of voice, video and audio packet loss; high-level call quality distribution; real-time call quality over time per codec; and open calls over time per codec. Media Throughput vs. Network Throughput graphs provide real-time information that illustrates the demand from these diverse data types.

Additional user interface enhancements include:

  • Display of both quality of call and media next to each flow for finding a problematic stream quickly
  • Integration of signaling and media views associate media streams with each call for faster analysis of call quality
  • Integration of call and Expert events for quickly seeing the Expert diagnosis associated with each call
  • Individual Open Calls and Closed Calls Views to easily distinguish real-time versus post capture analyses

Voice and Video over IP Graphs

OmniPeek reports numerous voice and video over IP statistics, such as packet loss, MOS, and RFactor, which are critical for analyzing and troubleshooting multimedia networks. The ability to graph these important statistics over time allows an even faster and more accurate problem finding-and-solving cycle. In addition, Version 6 allows the network administrator to create graphs on all voice and video statistics collected with a click of the mouse.

Advanced Signaling and Media Analysis

Comprehensive analysis of both signaling and media information is required to effectively monitor and troubleshoot VoIP traffic. In addition to advanced analysis of SIP, RTSP, Cisco SCCP, MGCP, the OmniPeek Distributed Analysis Suite now provides complete analysis of H.323 and Avaya CCMS signaling protocols and codecs as well as quality metric information, providing even greater visibility to IP telephony networks.

Network administrators can easily click on a specific call and get signaling information such as caller, callee, extension number, signaling protocol, codecs, etc. and drill down into the media flows view to quickly determine call quality. All the Expert diagnoses associated with the call are available in the same view providing the description, cause and remedy of the issue. Drill-down into more detailed information is available for further analysis as required.

With OmniPeek Version 6.0, network engineers can modify the jitter buffer during VoIP playback to see how different settings would affect call quality. They can play each call back at its best quality as well as the exact quality that callers experienced.

Advanced MPLS and VLAN Analyses, New Decodes

For organizations adopting MPLS and VLAN, the OmniPeek Distributed Analysis Suite captures MPLS and VLAN traffic, as well as, providing important statistics such as total packets and total bytes per MPLS/VLAN. Network administrators can graph all MPLS/VLAN statistics over time for a visual view of the MPLS/VLAN network to the user. Additionally, the administrator can set alarms on these statistics and receive notifications as soon as a problem occurs in the network.

Version 6 supports numerous new and enhanced decoders, including sFlow, MPEG 4, 802.11n, Avaya, Cisco, H.222, H.264, and more.

Enhanced Wireless Analysis Helps to Identify Gaps in Coverage

Version 6 of the OmniPeek Distributed Analysis Suite adds unique wireless analysis that dissects each and every roaming occurrence, providing detailed and accurate measurements from many perspectives, including end-user and device manufacturer, as well as summary data for roaming from each AP or client.

Performance Improvements across the Board

With 64-bit support in our latest Linux-based Omnipliances, network administrators can take advantage of additional memory and processing power to rapidly perform memory intensive tasks, such as data recording, forensics search, Expert analysis, and multi-media analysis.
